Shelby Hillebrandt has been a die-hard University of Alabama fan for as long as she can remember. But this weekend, she's about to take her fandom to a whole new level.

Instead of just cheering from the stands, Shelby will be joining the ranks of the Million Dollar Band as they perform at the university’s annual spring football game, A-Day.

“I’m a big Alabama fan, but I didn’t think it would be possible to play in the marching band with them,” Shelby said. “But, my grandparents saw I wanted to go and they made it possible.”

Shelby has played in a number of honor bands, but this is the first time she’s going solo.

“I am excited for Shelby to have this amazing opportunity to perform with a University I know she loves,” said CCHS Band Director Austin Marshall.

Stepping way outside of her comfort zone, the CCHS sophomore said she’s excited for the opportunity and to meet other musicians. She will be on campus April 12 and 13 for rehearsal and game day.

The Million Dollar Band has more than 400 members and is one of the most respected university marching bands in the country.

“I think it will be big and scary at first,” Shelby said with a nervous laugh. But, she has been rehearsing the music for several weeks, working hard to learn the parts a trumpeter would play.

She and others attending A-Day will not get to march on the field, because there will be 700 high school students and alumni in attendance. But, they will get to play in the stands with the Million Dollar Band. They will also play during the Walk of Champions before the game starts.

The game will be televised on ESPN, so keep your eyes peeled for this Panther as she embraces her dream.Band student
