Janet Blythe retiring

After more than a decade with Carroll County Schools, Janet Blythe is stepping away from a career she says has been defined by meaningful work, strong relationships, and deep community ties.

Blythe joined the district in 2008, bringing with her 20 years of experience in staffing. She began her time with Carroll County Schools as a bookkeeper at the middle school, where she spent 10 years working closely with students and staff. Later, she transitioned to the district office, taking on a role in accounts payable that she has held ever since.

ā€œI’ve loved it,ā€ Blythe said. ā€œI’ve been very blessed that both of my long-term jobs in my lifetime, I’ve enjoyed very much. I love the people I’ve worked with.ā€

Chief Financial Officer Jon Conrad, who served as Blythe’s supervisor during her years at the central office, congratulated her on her upcoming retirement. ā€œHer 18 years of dedication, both at CCMS and at the Central Office, have left a lasting impact on Carroll County Schools.  Her hard work and passion for the job have made a difference every day,ā€ Conrad said. ā€œI wish Jan all the best in her retirement and hope this next chapter brings her happiness, relaxation, and time to enjoy all the things she loves.ā€

Blythe’s move from the school level to the district office came with an adjustment, but one she quickly embraced.

ā€œAt the school level, I loved the kids. It’s a little different coming over here, but I learned to see the beauty in it,ā€ she said. ā€œIt’s a great opportunity for people, and I’ve enjoyed it. I love what I do.ā€

A lifelong member of the Carroll County community, Blythe’s connection to the district runs deep. A graduate of Carroll County High School, she spent most of her life in the area, with only a brief time living in Frankfort. That local background shaped both her experience and her relationships on the job.

ā€œIt definitely helped,ā€ she said. ā€œI knew a lot of the individuals who came into the school. I knew their families, and I had connections with many of the people I worked with.ā€

Those connections extend beyond the workplace. Blythe comes from a well-known local family, with roots tied to several longtime community businesses, including Hill’s Grocery, Hill’s Dairy, and Hill’s Shoe Store. Her parents, siblings, and extended family are all Carroll County graduates, and today, they all call the area home once again.

ā€œIt’s good to be home,ā€ she said. ā€œFamily is important, and it means a lot that we’re all here.ā€

Throughout her career, Blythe said she has felt fortunate to work alongside supportive colleagues and leadership.

ā€œI’ve been very blessed,ā€ she said. ā€œJon has been amazing to work for, and Dana (Dana Oak, former CCMS principal) was great to work with. I feel very fortunate because I truly did love what I did.ā€

While she admits the decision to retire was not easy, Blythe said it is the right step for her at this time.

ā€œI’ve struggled with the decision, but for personal reasons, I feel like it’s the best thing to do,ā€ she said.

Carroll County Schools Superintendent Casey Jaynes congratulated Janet on her retirement. ā€œShe has been a valuable source of knowledge for me with finances and a valued member of our team. She is a true servant leader in her role and we will miss her greatly,ā€ Jaynes added.

In retirement, she is looking forward to slowing down and spending more time doing the things she enjoys most, including antiquing, selling items, and making memories with her husband, family, and dogs.

As she closes this chapter, Blythe leaves behind a legacy of dedication, kindness, and a genuine love for her community. Her years of service reflect not only a commitment to her work, but also to the place she has always called home.
