Carroll County’s new varsity football coach, Brent Charles, wasted no time getting to know his players and exploring the schools this week. With his official start date approaching, Charles is eager to hit the ground running
Speaking with the high school players, he shared that his love for football began at just nine years old—something he’s excited to pass on to his team.
“We’re about to do something special,” he said to the room of players. “I’m here today to start our relationship and I’m super excited to be here.”
Charles, who comes to Carroll County from Great Crossings High School in Scott County, is putting the finishing touches on assembling his coaching staff, a mix of familiar and new faces. But no matter their background, he emphasized that every coach is committed to the same goal. “They all want to make you guys better and go to battle with you on Friday nights,” he said.
Growing up in a small town himself, Charles understands the power of community support under the Friday night lights. “We’re going to give you something to be proud of,” he said, noting he is preparing to move here and immerse himself into Carroll County.
“You’re going to get the best of me and all I ask in return is you give me your best,” he said.
Soon he plans to get the players started on workouts and getting to know one another “in the football sense.”
In addition to coaching, Charles will also join the staff at Carroll County High School as a health and physical education teacher, ensuring his presence extends beyond the football field.
“Coach Charles brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Carroll County, having played a key role in Great Crossing’s deep playoff run last season,” said Athletic Director Scott Anderson. “His background at both the high school and collegiate levels made him a standout choice, and we’re confident he will bring great energy and leadership to our program.”
