Six CCHS seniors earn double diplomas

Carrollton, Ky. - May 5, 2021 - Six Carroll County High School seniors are earning two diplomas this month, thanks to a partnership between Jefferson Community and Technical College and the Carroll County School District. Devin Benecke, Mallory Gross, Gabriella Hembree, Grace Long, Kaitlyn Osborne and Lily Young have fulfilled the requirements to earn both a high school diploma and an associate's degree. Benecke, Gross and Hembree were based at the iLead Academy. Students took high school and college classes during the past four years.

"This is an incredible accomplishment for the students, for their families and for our community," said Superintendent Danny Osborne. "I am so proud of these students and the work they have put in during the past four years. They have set themselves up for success in the next stage of their lives. Having completed two years of college already gives them a head start that we could not have imagined a few years ago. Our students at the high school as well as at the iLead Academy are able to take advantage of this early college program. With hard work and collaboration, we can accomplish anything in this community."

Through the early college program, students who demonstrate college readiness are able to enroll in JCTC classes as well as classes at other postsecondary institutions. At JCTC, students are able to take classes at 33% of the regular tuition. Additionally, the school district, the Educational Excellence Foundation of Carroll County and scholarships help reduce the tuition as well.

"In addition to these six outstanding students who are completing their associate’s degrees, numerous other seniors have earned college credits through this program as well," Osborne said. "I can't emphasize enough how much of a benefit it is for our community to have JCTC in our backyard. I want to extend a special thanks to Heather Yocum and all of the faculty and staff at the college. Without their partnership, our students would not have this opportunity."

The Carroll County School District is a public school system that operates within the geographic boundaries of Carroll County, Kentucky. The district serves around 1,900 students K-12. For more information on the Carroll County School District, visit http://carroll.kyschools.us
