District Security Risk Assessments

Carrollton, Ky. - March 3, 2020 - During the first two weeks of February, Carroll County Schools received visits from the Office of the State School Security Marshall for Security Risk Assessments. The purpose of the assessments was to work with district schools to ensure that students and staff are in the safest environment possible.

“Overall, we were pleased with the results of our Security Risk Assessments,” said Superintendent Danny Osborne. “This is a testament to the ongoing work of our staff, especially our chief operations officer, Mark Willhoite. Safety is our first priority, and we are lucky to have Mr. Willhoite leading the charge here.”

In recent years, the Carroll County School District has implemented numerous safety-related improvements to its facilities and day-to-day operations:

  • Raptor Technologies Visitor management system
  • Bus Buddie bus tracking system
  • Door buzzer entry systems at all schools
  • Badge-linked access control for employees
  • School Resource Officers at all schools
  • Advanced district-wide camera system
  • Additional pedestrian safety striping around schools

“Our security risk assessments emphasized the positive relationship that we have with first responders in our community,” Willhoite said. “That is the key to our safety success. Safety is a team effort, and our first responders are always available to help us plan and prepare.”

Among other improvements, the State School Security Marshall noted in a report that the district utilizes “advanced safety features that go beyond what is required for compliance” and that “It is apparent that everyone in the school is striving to make the school a safer, more secure school.”

“The passage of Senate Bill 1 has prompted schools to take a hard look at safety,” Osborne said. “We are taking this challenge seriously and are looking to do more than comply with SB1 requirements. To our first responders and to everyone in our community and state supporting our efforts, I can’t thank you enough.”
